Big grey sky over the desert tonight, the kind that makes you glad you're heading home. The road is empty, just me and the dash lights and the first smell of rain on the creosote, that dusty green scent that only comes when the drops actually land. I've got a blanket in the back and nowhere to be until morning. The storm is rolling in slow, all charcoal and purple, hugging the mountains like a quilt somebody pulled up too far. I like this season. The desert cools off, the sky gets opinions, and every drive turns into a little adventure with a warm destination at the end. There's a diner two towns over. Pie, probably. Warm cherry pie, the kind with the crackly crust. The yellow dashes glide under the tires, hypnotic as a fireplace. Rain starts. Soft. Then real. I turn the wipers on slow and let the world go grey and quiet. Storms are just weather getting dramatic. Best watched from inside. With pie. The heater's on low. The windows fog at the corners. Home is ninety minutes out, and the storm can have the highway until then. #desertstorm #cozydrive #seasonal #rainyday
