Sometimes the desert at dusk looks like a skyline. The mesas stack up flat and orange, windows of shadow in the rock, and the haze hangs low and pink like a city seen from a plane. I drove this road once with the windows down, radio up, dust settling on everything like free glitter. No traffic. No streetlights. Just the headlights carving a tunnel through the gold. It felt like the last bar in the last town, the one that never closes, where the neon hums and nobody checks the time. The road ahead disappears in the haze, and that's fine. I'm not looking for the end. I'm looking for the feeling. The shoulders are red as rust, the sagebrush hunches low, and the sky keeps its own schedule. Up there it's still blue. Down here it's all dust and dusk. Best light in town, and the town is empty. I stayed until the mesas went dark. Then I drove on. Something's always open on the horizon. The radio found a station playing something slow. Perfect. The city is three hours east, but tonight the whole valley is mine. #mesa #dusk #neonhaze #desertroad
