There's a specific warmth to late autumn afternoons that no heater can copy. The kind that pours over a ridge like honey and turns the whole hillside gold. The road down there is thin and patient, curling between the rocks like it's in no hurry to reach the sea. The rocks are still holding the day's heat. I can feel it through my sleeves.
This is my favorite season for walking. Cold enough for a wool coat, warm enough on your face when the sun hits. The heather has gone rusty red and bronze, and the clouds are doing that slow grey-and-amber dance they only do in October.
I'd take a thermos up this road. I'd sit on that rocky edge where the land drops away, and I'd drink something hot while the light turned the small lakes below into coins.
Evening comes early now. The sun is already leaning into the hills on the left, and the shadows are stretching out across the grass, long and blue and soft. Nobody's on the road. It's mine for an hour.
That's the whole plan. Tea. A ridge. A road going nowhere in particular. Home before dark, hands cold, heart warm. #autumn #ridge #road #cozy
