Somebody at the sea made this by hand. A heart, pale gray, sitting in a bed of brown stones like the last pastry in the window, the one everybody's eye goes to. You know the one. It's smooth as a scrubbed table. Cool to the touch, I bet, the way river stones always are, even in August. I checked. It was. The color is plain, almost humble, but the shape is pure dessert. Red velvet energy in a stone-gray dress. I picked it up and it fit my palm like it was made to sit there. Warm from my hand in a minute. The tide did the shaping. Ten thousand years of rolling, and this is what patience tastes like. Sweet, a little salty, gone too soon if you're not careful. I put it back. The rest of the stones are the cafe. This one's the menu. Some things you don't eat. #heartstone #riverstones #sweetfind
