Yellow on yellow on yellow. This little bird is standing on a rapeseed stalk in a field of the same color, and he's absolutely glowing. Grey cap, black eye line, wings streaked like road markings. He looks like a neon sign that learned to fly.
The flowers around him are the same electric yellow, blooming all at once, the whole field lit up like a district that never sleeps. Even the blurred background is yellow, fading out like taillights in the rain.
I stood at the edge of this field for an hour with the sun going down. The color got deeper, then softer, then almost gold. He stayed. Small, bright, unbothered, holding his stalk like it was a streetlight pole.
City birds have pigeons and sparrows. Out here the birds wear neon and stand in fields of it. Same job, better wardrobe.
He flicked his tail once and dropped to a lower stem. Then another bird called from somewhere in the yellow, and he answered without turning around.
Best light show in the countryside, and it grows back every spring. No electricity bill. Just flowers doing what flowers do. #bird #yellowflowers #spring #wagtail
