So I tried to grow flowers once. Once. These blue ones are living their best life in near-total darkness, glowing like tiny neon candles, and my basil plant looked at me for two weeks and quit. I don't know what these are exactly. Lavender's fancy cousin? Some kind of bluebonnet that shops at night? Either way, they're stunning. The stalks lean in from the corners like they're leaning in to hear gossip, and the little blossoms are stacked in fuzzy rows, each one a bead of light. The background is black as my coffee, which, side note, is also how I like my coffee. I keep this photo as a reminder that some things thrive in the shade. Not me. I need a lamp and a snack and a small parade. But them? They're fine. Water and darkness and swagger. Respect. Four stalks total, each tipped with a cluster of buds that catch the light like someone sprinkled glitter on a disco ball. The green blades below are soft and out of focus, doing supportive friend duties. My basil could never. RIP basil. You tried. Anyway. Buy plants, not seeds. Trust me. #flowers #blue #macrophotography #plants
