Rain just stopped, and the stone is wearing it like jewelry. Dozens of little droplets sit on a dark grey surface, each one round and glossy, holding a tiny piece of the sky in its belly. Some are big as thumbs. Some are barely there. They scatter across the frame in loose groups, like someone dropped a handful of pearls and didn't bother to pick them up. This is the part of a storm I love. Not the thunder. The after. When the air goes cool and clean and everything drips a little. I used to sit on the porch with my mom watching the raindrops race down the rail. She always said the biggest one wins. It usually did. The drops here catch the light on one side, soft grey highlights, and the stone stays dark and patient underneath. Cozy isn't always warm. Sometimes it's just clean. The surface has a faint texture, tiny speckles of lighter grey, like a counter that's seen a thousand mornings. Some drops have smaller droplets clinging to them, little satellites. Put the kettle on. Watch them slowly sink. #raindrops #stone #aftertherain #cozy
