Quiet mornings have their own light. This one has a wooden plate, a glass of black coffee going cool, a small bundle of wildflowers, and a tower of macarons in colors that run the whole spectrum. Pink, yellow, blue, purple, stacked four high and tied with a pale ribbon, standing straight like a little monument. Two loose cookies rest at the base, one purple, one pink, round as coins. The cloth under the plate is soft grey linen, wrinkled like it was slept on. Everything is still. The coffee steams once, then quits. I've had breakfasts like this where nobody talked and nobody needed to. Just the clink of a cup, the smell of the flowers, the sugar on your fingers. The stack leans a little, human and imperfect. Some things don't need to dazzle. They just need to be here. The wildflowers are white and yellow with tiny purple blooms, leaning out of a bunch someone tied with string. The coffee is dark and honest. The linen has folds like small hills. Colors stacked four high, sunset in a tower. Breathe. The day starts slow. That's allowed. #macarons #breakfast #stilllife #quietmoments
