My aunt used to set the table like this. Not exactly this, but close. Pastel cookies stacked on a little bunny dish, pink eggs in the grass, a teacup with flowers painted on it going cold in the background, everything soft as a hug. Two mint macarons sit one on top of the other, smooth as river stones, and the bunny figurine holds a tiny flower like it picked it that morning. There are pink eggs in front, glossy and perfect, the kind you weren't allowed to eat until after the photo. The tablecloth is pale blue, the light is warm and low, and the whole thing smells, in my memory, like vanilla and my aunt's hand cream. Family tables look like this. Slightly crooked. Slightly too much. Completely loved. If you've got people who set tables like this, tell them you noticed. They'll pretend not to care and care completely. Behind it all, an open box of macarons in mint and coral, and a vase of pink flowers soft as a dream. The bunny is white with a pink nose and a tiny bow. Somebody chose every piece. That's love, in objects. #easter #macarons #family #nostalgia
