Yellow. Two of them, side by side. One with heart eyes. One laughing so hard it's crying. The paint is thick. You can see the brush. Someone pressed too hard on the heart and it came out lopsided. Good. The carton is plain cardboard, slightly damp at one corner. Nothing here is trying. Not one thing. The light falls from the left and the shadows go long and soft across the table. There's a third egg at the edge of the frame. Only half of it made it in. I like that. Half an egg is still an egg. I look at these two and feel my whole face change without asking me first. That's the trick, isn't it. You don't decide to smile. It just happens. Like weather. Like the light moving across the table while you sit there doing nothing important. The clock in the kitchen ticked. A car went by outside. Then nothing. I sat there for a while. The eggs didn't mind. They're eggs. They have nowhere else to be. Neither do I, for five minutes. The room was warm. The eggs were yellow. It was enough. #emojieggs #yellow #simplethings
