Get close and her whole face is a map. Those eyes, huge and round and impossibly blue, each one with a dark pupil like a bead sewn on by hand. The nose is a small pink triangle, split down the middle by a thin darker line. The whiskers fan out from a white patch that runs down the center of her face like a road. The fur around it goes black, then rust, then black again, in patches you could name like constellations. One ear tilts forward. The other is half turned, listening to two worlds at once. Her body is low to the floor, belly almost brushing the boards, moving like spilled ink. Even the tail tip has a pattern, striped right at the end. You don't notice these things from across the room. You have to lean in. The floorboards under her paws have their own grain, their own years. A small crumb sits near her, forgotten, probably from breakfast. Everything up close is a country you didn't know you were living in. I put the camera down and just looked. #tortie #catcloseup #macrocat
