This is what the end of a good day looks like. Not a dramatic day, not a milestone day — just one where the work got done and the light agreed to go out gently. The sun sits low between two dark trees, half swallowed by cloud, and the whole sky has gone the color of toast with too much butter. Underneath, the wheat field catches the last of it and holds it, gold on gold, every seed head lit from behind like it's been dusted with something expensive. I stood out here with my sleeves pushed up, dirt still on my hands, and let the warmth hit my face. There's a smell to this hour. Dry grain, warm earth, a cool thread of evening already moving in underneath. The clouds above went soft and peachy, like a pillow someone had just fluffed. My grandmother called this 'the sky putting itself to bed.' She farmed this kind of ground her whole life and never once took a photo of it, which I understand now. You don't capture this. You just stand in it, tired in the good way, and let it be enough.
