I keep coming back to evenings like this one, when the sun drops low and the whole frozen lake turns into a mirror that doesn't care what month it is. There's a hush out on the ice that you can't record. You just stand in it. The sun looks like it's sitting right on the horizon, too heavy to lift another inch. The cracks in the frozen surface catch the light and hold it, patch after patch of gold and violet spreading out toward the dark treeline. I walked out as far as the old snowmobile track and stopped. My boots crunched. Nothing else made a sound. Behind me, the hills went black against the last orange strip of sky. Somewhere under my boots there's water that won't move again until spring, and honestly? I envy it a little. That kind of patience seems impossible in the world I come from. If you ever need a place to think, find a lake in winter. Bring a thermos. Say nothing. I stayed until my fingers went numb and the first star showed up over the ridge. Worth it. Every time. #sunset #lakelife #frozenwater
