I came down to the reef at dusk, when the water goes violet and the whole world softens at the edges. There's this one anemone I keep visiting. Purple. Impossible purple. And tucked inside it, that same small orange face, watching me like we have an arrangement. We do. I come. It hides. That's the deal. I float above, holding my breath the way you do in churches, and let the quiet do its work. The current moves through the tentacles and they part, then close, like a curtain nobody pulls. The tentacles glow like a hundred small lanterns, each one lit from inside. Above us the surface light fades. Below, nothing. Just purple, and the small orange heart of it, beating slow. I've been visiting this reef for years and the anemone has never once moved. It doesn't need to. Everything it wants is already here. I stay until my lungs remind me I'm only visiting. Then I climb out, dripping, and the whole evening feels rinsed clean. Some friendships need no words. Some gardens grow underwater. Some peace costs one held breath. #clownfish #purpleanemone #reeflife
