He's in the green like it's a room he's lived in forever. Small gray body, dark cap of hair, one hand resting on a leaf bigger than his face. He uses it like an umbrella, like a door. Nothing about him is rushed. He turns his head slow, checks me, decides I'm probably fine. The leaves around him are thick and glossy, each one the size of a plate, and the light comes through in pieces. Somewhere behind him the forest is all hum and drip and faraway birds. He doesn't look at the camera. He's looking at the next branch, the next leaf, the next small decision. I envy that. A life made of tiny choices, all of them easy. He grips the stem and leans out into the green, and I lose him for a second, then find him again. Wild things keep their own time. Stand still long enough and the forest forgets you're there. #monkey #forestlife #green
