Look at the fingers. Four tiny ones wrapped around the branch, pink at the tips, each nail a small dark moon. The palm is pale pink, mapped with lines finer than thread. Then the eyes. Round, wet, amber-brown, set in a face the size of a plum. The fur on his head sticks up in a little tuft, fine as the fuzz on a peach. You want to touch it. You don't. You just look. His nose is two soft nostrils and nothing else. His mouth is a small line, very serious, deciding whether this branch is safe. Behind him the leaves are huge and glossy, veins standing out like roads on a map. One leaf in the foreground is sharper than the rest. Focus chose it, not me. He holds on with everything he has. Every muscle engaged. You can see the effort in the shoulder, the lean of the whole small body. Everything is closer than you think. You just have to lean in. #babymonkey #macro #wildlifephotography
