I keep this one saved for grey afternoons. There's a girl in a sky-blue swimsuit standing where the clouds are piled so thick and white you could nap on them. Her hair is long and dark and it moves like it has its own weather. The blue of her suit matches the blue behind her, so for a second you can't tell where she ends and the sky begins. That's the trick of good art. It lets you fall in. I remember a July like this. Heat on the parking lot. The walk to the water with a towel over one shoulder. Nothing to do but be young and warm and a little bit bored. The drawing keeps that feeling in a jar. Long hair, blue ribbons, a hand half raised like she's about to say something and thought better of it. Some pictures are windows. This one's a screen door left open. The clouds behind her are the puffy storybook kind, layer on layer, going back to a sun that's just out of frame. I can almost feel the breeze off the water. Almost. I've never been good at standing still. This makes me want to try. #anime #beachday #summersky #illustration
