Golden hour in a field, and it tastes like honey. The light pours through everything, thick and warm and slow, turning the grass into threads of amber and the daisy behind into a blown-out white sun with a butter-yellow heart. She climbs one dry stem near the top, all red polish and black dots, holding still while the whole meadow glows around her. This is the color of late summer bread crust. Of marmalade on the counter catching the morning. Of the first sip of something warm when the day goes soft. I stood there breathing it in, that dry-grass-and-sunlight smell, and forgot about the coffee going cold in the car. The stem bends a little under her weight and springs back. Everything out here is ripening at once. Even the shadows look sweet. Even the dust. It smells like a bakery at closing time, all warm sugar and spent flour. Her little white cheeks catch the light too, two clean dabs of cream on a red cherry. Small thing, warm world. I could stay in this light all evening. It's the flavor of the whole season in one stem. #ladybug #goldenhour #honeylight
