The whole room seems to hold its flowers for her. Petals in every shade of pink hang suspended in the air like the moment itself refused to move, and she stands in the middle of it — one eye closed in a wink, the other impossibly blue, a lily tucked into silver hair that falls past her waist like poured light. The dress is all ruffles and roses, layered like a cake nobody's allowed to cut yet, and the veil behind her spreads wide enough to sail. I kept thinking, looking at this, that weddings are strange, wonderful machines for stopping time. Everyone dresses up, everyone gathers, and for one afternoon the ordinary rules pause — nobody checks the hour, nobody rushes the toast. She's winking because someone she loves is on the other side of that smile, camera up, probably crying. The best wedding photos are always taken by someone crying, in my experience. The petals will land eventually. The dress goes in a box. But the wink stays, and the blue eye, and the day everyone agreed to be gentle. That's what all this pink is really about.
