There's a small white bear sitting on a yellow star in this picture, and the star is carrying him through a night sky stitched with smaller ones. He looks calm. Ears soft, eyes half closed, one paw resting on the star's edge like it's the railing of a very slow train. The star has three round dots down its middle, like windows, and little clouds tucked at the points. Below, the sky deepens to navy and the clouds roll like dark hills. I remember believing, as a kid, that stars were things you could visit. That the sky was a place and not a distance. This drawing has that belief in it. Someone drew a bear riding a star like it was the most obvious thing in the world. Maybe it is. We just forget. The light is warm gold against all that blue. It doesn't blaze. It glows. Like a porch light left on. The stars around him are small, some four-point, some round, scattered like someone shook salt over the dark. He's going somewhere. You can tell by the ease of him. No map. No hurry. Just a star and a passenger who trusts it. #bear #stars #night #wonder
